Chelsea face Kai Havertz transfer dilemma during critical summer window

The soon-to-be 24-year-old German international has endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020, and could be headed for the exit row for the right price

German international star Kai Havertz could be set for a summer of change as the versatile Chelsea forward may find himself moving away from Stamford Bridge in the wake of what was another frustrating campaign in the English capital.

Once lauded as one of the most gifted players to emerge from Germany in the past few decades, the Aachen-born talent has failed to truly endear himself to the Blues while falling well short of expectations that followed on account of his breakout in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

As such, the soon-to-be 24-year-old is open to moving away from West London, while Chelsea is happy to listen to offers for the player, but their transfer demands are reportedly putting off potential suitors according to the Telegraph’s Matt Law.

According to Law’s latest report, the Blues are looking to receive a fee of £70m for Havertz, who has two years left on his current contract at the club. But Chelsea feels as though that fee is on par with his value despite his contract status after the German helped the club win the Champions League (scoring the match-winner), while his current market value sits around £50m.

Real Madrid is thought to be his biggest potential suitor this summer, with reports suggesting that former international colleague Toni Kroos has talked up the player to club boss Carlo Ancelotti, while Kroos views Havertz as a player that would be perfect for the system in the Spanish capital.

The dilemma for Chelsea, during a summer where the club must recoup a considerable chunk of cash in the wake of their massive spending spree in 2022-23 to off-set further spending under Pochettino during the upcoming window, is that Havertz could very easily run down the remainder of his deal and walk away for nothing.

With the impending arrival of RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, the door for a Havertz exit is a pathway that both the club and the player should push for.
