We are now at a point where struggling Premier League giants Chelsea can be expected to be linked to a new player every week for the remainder of the summer.

While there are clear signs of intent for the Blues to rectify their poor first season under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, questions can be levied in the direction of the Stamford Bridge outfit in terms of whether or not Chelsea is trying to do too much too soon.

The latest reported summer interest by Mauricio Pochettino’s men comes by way of the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, who detailed the possibility of an upcoming deal for La Liga starlet Gabri Veiga.

While so much of the summer discourse has been surrounding the possibility of securing Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo in a deal that could reportedly set the club back close to £100m if Seagulls owner Tony Bloom gets his way, an under-the-radar advance Veiga could be set to accelerate further after negotiations with Brighton could reach a tipping point if Bloom will not be talked down.

Per Steinberg, “Brighton’s high valuation could lead Chelsea to look at alternative targets. They plan to rival Barcelona and Liverpool for the Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, whose contract contains a £34m release clause. Sources have indicated that Chelsea could make an offer for the 21-year-old Spaniard soon.”

Veiga was one of the stories of the 2022-23 La Liga season after a fantastic season at Real Club Celta de Vigo while scoring 11 goals from the heart of the Os Celestes midfield. Arsenal had also been credited with previous interest in the Spanish youth international which has since cooled.
