Both Manchester United and Chelsea are in desperate need of a new no.9 for the 2023/24 campaign.

Chelsea’s main striker last season was Kai Havertz, who scored just seven league goals and has moved to Arsenal now anyway.

Manchester United, meanwhile, were let down by the finishing of their centre-forwards last season and after Wout Weghorst’s loan ended, United currently have Anthony Martial as their only striker.

One of the players both sides have been linked with to fix their goalscoring issues was Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen scored 31 goals and provided five assists in 39 games across all competitions for Napoli during the 2022/23 campaign as they ran out Serie A winners.

Such a return would be a major boost for both Premier League sides, but it appears neither club will be signing Osimhen.

The release clause remains a point of contention as the club want the figure to be around €200m but Osimhen’s entourage wants a lower fee and a settlement could be reached at around €150m.
