According to The Guardian, Chelsea have entered the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.
After missing out on Sporting’s Manuel Ugarte, who is expected to join PSG, Mauricio Pochettino has switched his focus to Veiga.
It is added that Chelsea, who also want a goalkeeper and a striker, face competition from Barcelona and Liverpool for the 21‑year‑old Spaniard.
Veiga has a £34.4m release clause, which is fairly low for a player of his potential – going some way to explaining why a number of Europe’s top clubs are showing an interest.
Liverpool are on the verge of signing Alexis Mac Alister from Brighton, with a medical said to be imminent. However, the Reds midfield was very poor last season and with a number of players set to leave on free transfers, Jurgen Klopp is expected to target two central midfielders this summer.
As for Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez has been vocal in his praise for Vega, but the Spanish side’s financial issues may slow down any potential move for the midfielder.
