The future of star Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat hangs in the balance this week after Serie A outfit Fiorentina hopes to reach a full understanding of his position surrounding a possible move to Premier League giants Manchester United.

Erik ten hag’s Red Devils, who have already secured moves for Chelsea’s Mason Mount as well as Inter Milan’s André Onana, will now look to turn their attention toward the midfield once again in a bid to strengthen the spine after the club refused to make a permanent move for Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer.

Per reports from Italian outlet Corriere della Sera (relayed by Get Italian Football News), La Viola is hoping to have a firm direction on whether or not Amrabat will be part of the senior squad under manager Vincenzo Italiano in 2023-24.

As such, Fiorentina has given Amrabat a few extra days away from pre-season camp in order to definitively sort out his future as links to a potential move to Old Trafford strengthen by the day, with a possible bid from the Red Devils coming before the conclusion of the current week.

The Dutch-born Moroccan international has been a life-blood midfielder for both club and country over the past year, helping Walid Regragui’s Atlas Lions achieve a memorable run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while Amrabat was a vital cog in the Fiorentina wheel that saw them reach the finals of the Europa Conference League.

A mobile holding midfielder with a high grade of technical competence and positional awareness, Amrabat would be an ideal addition to the United fold at the Theatre of Dreams that could see him deploy alongside Casemiro at the base of the midfield.
