Premier League overachievers Fulham are closing in on what could be one of the coups of the transfer window as the Cottagers are on the cusp of finalizing a deal for AFC Ajax center-back Calvin Bassey.
The 23-year-old Italian-born Nigerian international center-back is viewed as the ideal summer acquisition for Marco Silva at Craven Cottage as Fulham looks to build on their impressive top-half finish in 2022-23.
Per an update provided by football insider Fabrizio Romano, Fulham has already booked the players’ medical after an ~£18m has been put in place, with Bassey likely to be officially announced by the end of the week pending final details.

Fulham had been eyeing-up a potential move for the former Glasgow Rangers standout alongside interest in Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu to add a left-footed center-back into the fold under Silva, with Bassey offering a long-term solution alongside standout defender Tosin Adarabioyo.
Bassey, who was urged to join Fulham this summer by new Ajax manager Maurice Steijn on account of the club needing to pad its coffers in order to recruit this summer, made 39 appearances for De Godenzonen last season across all competitions in the wake of a breakout 2021-22 campaign with Rangers that saw him help the club push to an appearance in the final of the Europa League.
His recent experience in European competitions will no doubt bring a vital needle-moving presence to the heart of Fulham’s defense.
