Aston Villa look to have made an audacious attempt to steal Jan Bednarek from under the noses of West Ham United.

The Hammers had been looking to sign the Pole but now he is on his way to Villa Park.

Steven Gerrard’s side are in desperate need of reinforcements following a shocking start to the season.

Villa agree Bednarek deal

According to the Athletic, Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Southampton central defender Jan Bednarek.

The 26-year-old is now heading to the Midlands to undergo a medical.

The Saints are working on two deals to replace him and if one is successful, they will allow him to leave.

West Ham United had also been close to agreeing a deal, however, the defender has instead chosen to join Gerrard’s team.

Villa have moved for Bednarek after losing Diego Carlos to a serious injury.
