The player in question is Joel Matip.
Matip joined Liverpool in the summer of 2016 from German outfit Schalke on a free transfer.
During that time the Cameron international has racked up 187 appearances for the Reds as they won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
However, even most Liverpool fans would likely agree Matip has fallen off of late.
The 31-year-old had a solid 2021/22 season as Liverpool won two domestic trophies, got to the Champions League final and pushed Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
However, this past season saw Matip’s form fall off a cliff. Ibrahima Konate, meanwhile, is coming into his own in a Liverpool shirt and the Merseysiders are thought to want to sign another centre-back in the summer.
However, Fabrizio Romano has provided a different update on Tuesday:
“From what I heard they’ve had some conversations with Joel Matip over a new deal but it is not something concrete just yet,” Romano said.
