The news broke on Tuesday night that Liverpool were out of the running for Jude Bellingham.
Paul Joyce of The Times reported that Liverpool are drawing up a list of alternative targets to Jude Bellingham after deciding that the scale of their summer rebuild precludes a move for the England midfielder. With it added that the merits of spending far in excess of £100m on a single player have been widely debated at Anfield.
Now, a report from Football Insider claims that Liverpool have now made Alexis Mac Allister the top target after being priced out of a move for Bellingham.
The report adds that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the midfielder and is looking to get the deal across the line at the end of the season.
No fee is mentioned by FI, but with Bellingham expected to cost over £100m, Mac Alister will likely be a fair bit cheaper than the Englishman.
Mac Alister is having a tremendous 2022/23 season after securing the World Cup with Argentina and helping Brighton fight for a European place. He has scored eight league goals for the Seagulls so far this term.
