Liverpool currently have a wealth of central midfield options on their books.
Fabinho and Thiago are nailed-on starters in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield trio, whilst the remaining spot can be filled by Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott at present.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains on Liverpool’s books, though his future does look to be away from Merseyside given how little playing time he has seen of late.
And whilst all of those above options are great for now, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago are all north of 30, meaning Liverpool probably need to start planning for the future.
In particular, Liverpool could do with a player who is capable of operating in a box-to-box role on the right of a three as Henderson needs replacing very soon.
The two main names linked with Liverpool during the last six months have been Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham. However, the former of that duo has since joined Real Madrid, leaving Bellingham as the only option.
And now, after a disastrous start to 2022/23 which was largely down to midfield issues, it appears the Reds have stepped up their hunt for Bellingham.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have a verbal ‘agreement’ with Bellingham and he could even sign in January.
The German club have made it clear they will not sell the 19-year-old sensation this summer, which makes sense given they have already lost Erling Haaland. But Liverpool have been busy behind the scenes in recent months on having an agreement in place that could see Bellingham join as early as January of next year.
