A long-time member of the defensive setup at Manchester City has rejected the chance to link up with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.

The player in question? Aymeric Laporte.

The subject of stopper Laporte’s future, of course, has proven a major talking point on the blue half of Manchester leading into the summer transfer window.

This comes amid long-standing suggestions that the Spanish international has set his sights on a new adventure.

Laporte found himself down the central defensive pecking order at The Etihad this past season, afforded starts in just 11 of City’s 38 outings, en route to yet another Premier League crown.

With Pep Guardiola and co. understood to have set their sights firmly on the signature of RB Leipzig standout Josko Gvardiol with a view to next season, Laporte, in turn, is understandably weighing up his options.

As per a report from Football Insider:

‘A well-placed source has revealed that Tottenham have moved to sound out the Spain international about the possibility of moving to the Londoners this summer.’

Laporte, however, immediately made clear that he has no intention of linking up with Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Spurs, as a result, have moved on to other targets.
