A fresh insight into the plans of the powers that be at Premier League giants Manchester United to replace the transfer-linked Harry Maguire has been provided on Sunday evening.
The subject of stopper Maguire’s plans beyond the summer have of course reemerged as a major talking point on the red half of Manchester over the last couple of weeks.
This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the England international has been stripped of his duties as captain at Old Trafford.
He has since been replaced in the role by Bruno Fernandes.
Maguire, to his credit, dealt with the no doubt disappointing news in mature fashion, taking to his social media platforms to assure that his commitment to the United cause has not changed.
After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

And yet, speculation pointing towards a potential Old Trafford exit for the former Leicester City standout has continued to spread like wildfire.
With Maguire fresh off another high-profile mistake in Man United’s friendly meeting with Athletic Club on Sunday, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of contingency plans already being put in place by Erik ten Hag and co, in the case of his sale coming to fruition.
As per a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have earmarked OGC Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo as a leading candidate to replace Maguire in the club’s defensive ranks.
In fact, the powers that be at the Theatre of Dreams have gone as far as to send scouts to watch Todibo in action on a number of occasions, with a view to a summer bid for the Frenchman.
🇫🇷 Manchester United have sent scouts multiple times to follow Jean-Clair Todibo. They are keeping an eye on his situation and have had contacts. #mufc think he could be one of the priority options incase Harry Maguire leaves [@FabrizioRomano] pic.twitter.com/CyPuNICKoW
