Word stemming from the European media on Monday points towards Premier League giants Manchester United closing on another summer signing.
The latest player tipped to take his talents to Old Trafford with a view to the 2022/23 campaign? Jonathan Clauss.
For those not aware, Clauss is a 29-year-old right-back, who is also more than capable of lining out on the wing, fresh off something of a head-turning campaign last time out.
En route to an impressive 7th-placed Ligue 1 finish with RC Lens, the Frenchman racked up five goals and a hefty 11 assists, giving rise to a debut international call-up, and ensuing quartet of appearances for his country.
Such impressive production, meanwhile, did not go at all unnoticed across the continent, with a whole host of big-name clubs understood to have expressed interest in Clauss’ signature throughout the summer to date.
And now, as alluded to above, one such suitor appears to be closing on a deal for the versatile defender.
The assumption, in turn, is that the Red Devils have too opened negotiations with their counterparts at Lens, with a view to striking a transfer agreement over the course of the coming weeks.
Any such move could have a knock-on effect in Manchester, too, amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Old Trafford future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
