Arsenal have been linked with Declan Rice for some time now.

Last week the Gunners put in a £75m bid for the Hammers captain with an extra £15m in add-ons.

Manchester City then matched this bid with £80m up front and £10m in add-ons.

Both bids were rejected by West Ham. Then, on Tuesday evening, the Gunners submitted a club and British record bid for the West Ham midfielder of £100m plus £5m in add-ons.

Whilst not rejecting Arsenal’s second bid out of hand, West Ham have not accepted it because of the payment structure that Arsenal are trying to impose.

The two clubs are thought to now be in advanced negotiations over a deal, and Arsenal have been handed some good news on the Rice front.

Little more information is given on why City pulled out of the race, but the Sky Blues have been known to avoid bidding wars where possible in recent years.
