Football Insider are reporting that Manchester United are confident of beating Chelsea to the appointment of former Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards.
It is added that Manchester United have made up their minds that Edwards is the right man to oversee their transfer business after so many expensive mistakes in the past and have submitted what is believed to be a ‘hugely attractive offer’ to him.
United are close to agreeing a deal with the 43-year-old and are willing to wait until next summer for him to join.
Should Edwards indeed join the Red Devils, it would likely prove to be a major coup.
Edwards started working for former club Liverpool in 2011 before being made their sporting director in November of 2016.
After taking on the role of sporting director, Edwards oversaw some excellent transfer business.
A year later, Alisson, Fabinho and Naby Keita arrived through the door. And in more recent times, Thiago, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Kostas Tsimikas were brought in.
Edwards was also decent at getting high transfer fees for some fairly average players, with the likes of Dominic Solanke, Harry Wilson and more all being sold for a tidy amount.
