According to Corriere Dello Sport, Napoli are looking to tie Victor Osimhen down to a new long-term contract and they are hoping to increase his release clause to £173 million.
However, Goal claim Osimhen is wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea this summer and though the striker is locked in talks with Napoli regarding a new contract, no agreement has been reached yet.
It is added that Osimhen wants the release clause to be set at £100m but the absence of an agreement between Napoli and the player has opened the door for Manchester United and Chelsea to try their luck.
Both clubs are in desperate need of a no.9 heading into the new season, with Manchester United facing the prospect of a 50+ game campaign with Anthony Martial as their only natural centre-forward.
Osimhen scored 31 goals and provided five assists in 39 games across all competitions for Napoli during the 2022/23 campaign as they ran out Serie A winners.
