Antony has been linked with Manchester United for much of the summer and, in recent days, those links have become pretty strong once again.
Reports from the Netherlands on last week suggested that the 22-year-old did not take part in training despite being at the club’s training complex.
De Telegraaf also reported that Ajax had rejected an €80m bid from United on Thursday and that it was unclear whether or not his absence was down to an injury or his unhappiness at seeing a move being rejected.
Antony, meanwhile, played no part in Ajax’s latest clash this past Sunday, and then shared a photo of himself and his agent watching Manchester United beat Liverpool on Monday, whilst also commenting on an Instagram post of now Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez after the game.
Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder, though, has suggested the winger could stay in the Dutch capital beyond the summer:
“Antony is not training with the group, but I do see him every day. Nothing has changed since last Sunday,” he said.
Now though, the Sun are reporting that Antony is on the brink of becoming an £84m Manchester United signing.
It is claimed that United are understood to have met Ajax’s huge asking price for the Brazil winger, with a down payment of £74m plus £10m in add-ons the deal United are looking to strike.
Such a fee would bring United’s transfer spend for the summer to just over £200m.
