After months of upheaval, Cristiano Ronaldo was released from his Manchester United contract in November.
This leaves Manchester United with just one natural striker for the rest of the campaign, making a January move likely.
Of course, both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford can play through the middle, but neither play is that clinical in front of goal.
So, Manchester United fans are no doubt hoping to see a new no.9 through the door this winter.
And their wish could come true in the very near future.
According to the Mirror, Wout Weghorst is closing in to agree a loan move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.
Weghorst joined Burnley last year in the winter window and made 20 appearances for the Clarets but scored only two goals.
Weghorst is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Besiktas, for whom he has netted nine goals and provided four assists in 18 appearances.
Besiktas have an option to make Weghorst’s loan move permanent at the end of the season for €10m and any move to United would need their consent.
The striker currently earns around £40,000-a-week.
