According to Caught Offside, Manchester United have failed with a bid for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, which included Brazilian left-back Alex Telles as part of the deal.
101 covered reports from Portugal last week, which claimed an unnamed club has launched a £51m bid to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica. Manchester United are heavily suggested to have been behind the offer, according to A Bola.
Goncalo Ramos made a name for himself at the 2022 World Cup when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s XI and scored a hat-trick. He was also in fine form for Benfica this past season when he scored 19 and assisted seven in 30 league outings, and is expected to make a big move this summer.
Ramos would be a major coup for Manchester United, who are in desperate need of a goalscoring no.9 to lead the line next season.
Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta has been linked heavily, but the Dane is not as clinical as Ramos in front of goal.
However, it looks as though Man United may struggle to complete a deal for Ramos. They are unlikely to be able to stump up enough cash to persuade Benfica to part with their star man, whilst Telles – the player offered as part of the deal – is said to prefer a move back to his former club, FC Porto.
