Manchester United were interested in the midfielder in the summer of 2021, but he instead went to Brighton for less than £5m.

Caicedo has since impressed with the Seagulls and was garnering interest from some top sides over the summer.

Liverpool were said to have tabled a £42m bid for Brighton star Moises Caicedo, but were informed that would only buy his boots:

“I think you’d probably get his boots for that, maybe, knowing the chairman! It’s not for me to talk about. It is what it is,” then Brighton boss Graham Potter said.

He added: “It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level. As soon as you do research on him you realise he is a top kid, great person, young, playing in the Premier League, has all the attributes to play at the very, very highest level.

“But we know the position he is in and we know the position the club are in, which is why we don’t want to lose him.”

Writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano explained that Man United were Caicedo’s main suitors, even though there have been rumours linking the highly-rated youngster with other big clubs:

“There’s been a lot of speculation about Moises Caicedo and top Premier League clubs, with talk of further interest in January, so I thought I’d give my understanding of his situation,” Romano said.

“The only club interested this summer was Manchester United. They asked about Caicedo as potential option before signing Casemiro, who was the real and main priority.

“I’m not sure there will be a price tag for the player in January, as Brighton called him untouchable for the whole month of August.”
