According to the Daily Star, failure to accept a pay cut will see David De Gea leave Manchester United after 12 years of service.

As a result, with the 32-year-old’s future more than uncertain, Erik Ten Hag has been forced to consider replacements, and according to the Daily Star, the name at the top of the Dutchman’s summer wish list to replace his current number-one is Everton and England’s Jordan Pickford.

It is added that Everton are set to receive a bid believed to be within the region of £45m for the 29-year-old.

A move for Pickford does make some sense for Manchester United. The England international can make mistakes at times, but he has also produced a number of top displays for club and country.

Most importantly, though, Pickford is good at playing out from the back – an ability that has played a role in him maintaining his no.1 spot for the Three Lions for so long. De Gea, meanwhile, is not great with the ball at his feet, which has limited Ten Hag’s preferred game plan at times this season.
