Antony’s future at Ajax has been cast into doubt over the last week or so.
The winger has been linked with Manchester United for much of the summer and, in recent days, those links have become pretty strong once again.
Reports from the Netherlands on Friday suggested that the 22-year-old did not take part in training despite being at the club’s training complex.
De Telegraaf also reported that Ajax had rejected an €80m bid from United on Thursday and that it was unclear whether or not his absence was down to an injury or his unhappiness at seeing a move being rejected.
Antony also refused to commit his future to the Dutch outfit.
When asked if he could offer Ajax fans assurances that he would be staying, he replied: “No, to be perfectly honest, I can’t. What I can say is that I want to come to the right decision with my family, business partners and Ajax, which is good for everyone.
Journalist Tom McDermott recently tweeted that the fee for Antony is ‘ridiculous’ and that there but be better options available: “This reported Antony fee is ridiculous. Yeah, I get the ‘it’s not your money’ argument, but it’s part of the reason why #MUFC are where they are. There must be ‘better’ options. If it’s what the manager would like though…”

At this point, though, Manchester United fans will likely take any player they can get their hands on.
