The player in question is Southampton’s Mohamed Salisu.
A report from Football Insider claims that Manchester United and Aston Villa are interested in signing the 23-year-old defender during the summer transfer window.
Southampton are currently fighting for their place in the Premier League next season and they could lose a number of key players if they go down to the Championship at the end of the season, including Salisu.
It is understood that the defender is valued at £25m, which is certainly a fee Manchester United can afford.
Aston Villa are also interested, but you would assume the Red Devils will have the upper hand in any transfer race given the size of their club and their position in the table compared to Unai Emery’s men.
Salisu joined Southampton from Real Valladolid in August of 2020 for €12m. He has since featured 80 times for the Saints across all competitions.
