Mason Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 amid allegations of attempted rape, controlling behaviour and assault last October.

Greenwood stated that he was “in February … cleared of all charges”, though the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed at the time that the charges were discontinued and the case was “stopped” following the “withdrawal of key witnesses”.

On Monday, it was confirmed that the striker would leave United.

Followings this decision, Mason Greenwood could decide to quit football altogether after reportedly being left devasted by Manchester United’s decision to axe him from squad.

According to Daily Mail, a source stated: “I don’t think he is equipped to come back from this. There are players who would be able to think: ‘I have been cleared so stuff you’. They would just get on and score goals for someone. Mason is not one of those. He’s immature. I really think he’s finished.”
