On-loan Chelsea star Denis Zakaria has, on Thursday, confirmed his future beyond the close of the season.
Midfielder Zakaria, of course, made the move to Stamford Bridge last summer.
After being deemed surplus to requirements by Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri, the Swiss international was snapped up by the incoming Chelsea hierarchy, to add some much-needed depth to then-boss Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Zakaria’s ensuing stint in west London, however, proved a major disappointment.
Though he was actually singled out for praise by the Chelsea faithful for his displays on a number of occasions, the 26-year-old was simply unable to make a telling impact, owing to a string of fitness issues.
Reports in the media, in turn, had long pointed towards Todd Boehly and co. preparing to ship Zakaria back to Italy come the season’s close.
In a post on his official Twitter account, ‘Zak’ unveiled a farewell message to Chelsea, calling for ‘focus on beautiful memories’.
This comes, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, after incoming Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino informed the club’s board not to trigger their option to buy the former Borussia Mochengladbach standout.
Denis Zakaria confirms he’s leaving Chelsea: “It’s been a tough time but you guys always had my back. Thanks to everyone who’s been supporting me! Let’s focus on beautiful memories”. 🔵👋🏻 #CFC
