Scottish champions Celtic have, late on Friday evening, announced a deadline day addition to the club’s first-team ranks.

The latest player to have taken his talents to the green half of Glasgow with a view to the season ahead? Paulo Bernardo.

For those not familiar with his name, Bernardo is a highly-regarded Portuguese youth international, who generally lines out in the middle of the park.

A product of the famed academy setup at Benfica, the 21-year-old spent the 2nd half of last season out on loan, lining out for Paços de Ferreira.

Evidently, though, those in a position of power back in Lisbon remain of the opinion that Bernardo is not quite ready to compete for a first-team spot at the Estadio da Luz.

In turn, as alluded to above, he has tonight been farmed out on a 2nd successive loan.

‘Paulo Bernardo has become the latest addition to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic squad, with the Portuguese midfielder having joined from Benfica on a season-long loan with an option to buy. The move is subject to international clearance.’

Bernardo’s arrival marks the 9th at Parkhead this summer, expected to be the last ahead of tonight’s fast-approaching Scottish transfer deadline.
