Premier League giants Chelsea continue to roll on this summer amidst further unprecedented spending under the Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali era after the Blues finally struck terms with Southampton for midfield starlet Roméo Lavia.

Per confirmed reports from football insider Fabrizio Romano, the final agreement between both clubs falls just short of £60m with add-ons included, while the structure surrounding the fee has also officially been nailed down.

Lavia, who already agreed to personal terms with Chelsea on Monday, is set for his medical this week ahead of becoming yet another summer addition for the club across the last two seasons where the Stamford Bridge side has completely revamped their entire senior side under the guidance of investment vehicle Blueco.

As one of the lone standout performers in 2022-23 with a Saints outfit that was unable to avoid dropping down to the Championship, the former RSC Anderlecht and Manchester City attendee was one of the most sought-after midfielders of the entire window, with Arsenal having also been linked to the player before Chelsea and Liverpool battled to rescue him from St. Mary’s Stadium.

Upon arrival in West London, Lavia will become the eighth signing this window after the arrivals of Moisés Caicedo, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Robert Sánchez, and Ângelo, totaling £330m in summer spending after the club hashed-out £524m last season. Lavia is also set to become the eighth central midfielder on the books aged 23 or younger, with Chelsea clearly focusing on the long-term future of the senior squad.

With Chelsea also rumored to be pursuing Crystal Palace starlet Michael Olise and possibly looking to trigger his £35m release clause at Selhurst Park, the Blues, in total, are in line to spend a shade under £900m in twelve months.
