Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri has joined Greek side Panathinaikos.

Uruguay international Pellestri joined the Red Devils from Penarol in 2020 but struggled to break into the first team.

In four years, the 22-year-old made just 25 appearances and went out on loan three times, twice at Alaves and once at Granada during the second half of last season.

A statement from the club said: “Everyone at the club would like to wish Facundo the very best of luck with his new club, and thank him for his efforts here.”

He was part of Uruguay’s Copa America squad over the summer and came on as a substitute during United’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.

Panathanaikos are managed by Fernando Alonso, who selected Pellistri for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Pellistri has signed a four-year deal with the Greek club.

United have negotiated a 45% sell-on clause as part of the deal as well as a three-year buy-back option, according to The Athletic.
