Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on their first summer signing.

Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is now close to joining the north London club.

With Brentford asking for too much for David Raya, Spurs have instead accelerated a move for the Italian.

£16.4 million deal agreed

Tottenham and Empoli are close to agreeing a deal for Guglielmo Vicario, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs are set to submit a bid worth £16.4 million which is expected to be accepted.

Vicario has already agreed personal terms on a contract until June 2028.

They are looking to replace Hugo Lloris who is expected to leave the club this summer after 11 years.

Top clubs interested

Whilst many Premier League and Tottenham fans will be questioning this deal, Vicario is considered by many in Italy as one of the best shot-stoppers in Serie A.

Last summer, Italian goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon was full of praise for him: “Vicario is doing things out of the ordinary”.

The 26-year-old has also been linked with many top clubs around Europe.

Bayern Munich were keen to sign him back in January to replace Manuel Neuer.

Brighton have also looked at him recently, whilst Manchester United, Napoli and Inter Milan have also been interested.

However, it is Spurs who look set to land the goalkeeper, and for what is being deemed to be a fantastic price.
