Julian Alvarez joined Man City in January of 2022 from River Plate. He was then loaned back to the Argentine outfit for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The Argentine linked up with Manchester City last summer ahead of the 2022/23 season.

At the same time, Manchester City signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian went on to cement himself as the Sky Blues’ main no.9, scoring 52 goals and breaking countless records along the way last term.

This, of course, saw Alvarez playing second fiddle to the former RB Salzburg man. Despite this, Alvarez still ended the season with nine Premier League goals and 17 across all competitions.

The 23-year-old would likely be a regular starter for most teams, but will struggle to find any regular minutes ahead of Haaland.

As a result, his long-term future at the Etihad has been called into question.

The only thing that could change their decision is if there is a better offer from another giant club, but that is something that is currently not on the table.
