In the wake of a serious pre-season injury to star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid are on the hunt and scouring the continent to source market solutions, with links to Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou now doing the rounds.
Courtois suffered a devastating ACL injury during Madrid’s pre-season camp that is now likely to see him miss the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign on all fronts, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with just backup keeper and Ukrainian international Andriy Lunin as his only option.
As such, Madrid has begun to quickly find an answer to a potentially season-defining issue on the pitch, with recent links to Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga as well as out-of-contract David De Gea, with Bounou’s name also being linked per ESPN. But according to Sevilla’s president Pepe Castro, there are no talks planned.

The 32-year-old Moroccan international shot-stopper has been sublime for both club and country in recent years, playing a vital role in The Atlas Lions’ magical run to the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar as well as helping Sevilla to a pair of Europa League wins, most recently in 2022-23 against José Mourinho’s AS Roma.
With two years left on his current deal in Andalusia and Champions League football on offer at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán this season, his story in southern Spain may have yet another chapter still.
