Liverpool have had some issues in the 2022/23 campaign so far and already face an uphill battle to beat Manchester City to the Premier League crown.
One of the main problem areas for Liverpool this season has been central midfield. At one point under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds had one of the best midfields in the Premier League with Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
However, Wijnaldum has since departed and, in truth, Liverpool have failed to replace the Dutchman, who worked tirelessly to provide defensive support.
Jordan Henderson, meanwhile, is no longer at his best and has looked a shadow of his former self this campaign, whilst James Milner’s career is also winding down.
So, Liverpool fans were hoping to see some investment in central midfield during the 2022 summer transfer window.
But Liverpool were not looking to sign a midfielder this summer until their poor form at the start of 2022/23 changed their mind.
That loan is not working out, however, with reports already circulating that Liverpool will look to cut the Brazilian’s move short in January.
Elsewhere, it has been reported that Liverpool could look to step up their plans to bring in a new midfielder, potentially signing someone in January instead of next summer: “Liverpool intends to invest heavily to strengthen the midfield in 2023.
The initial idea was to hire only in June, but internally, it has already discussed the possibility of bringing the decision forward to January.”
