Arsenal currently have four senior central defenders. William Saliba, Ben White, Rob Holding and Gabriel.
This season has seen Saliba and Gabriel emerge as the Gunners’ main centre-back duo, with Ben White often used at right-back instead.
And whilst four central defenders is generally enough for one team who play a back-four, Arsenal currently have just one left-footed option in Gabriel.
As a result, it is not too surprising to see the north Londoners eyeing some reinforcements at the back.
It was recently reported that Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka has emerged as a transfer option for Arsenal in their attempts to find a left-sided centre-back to provide competition for Gabriel.
Ndicka is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning Arsenal could sign him on a pre-contract agreement from January before bringing him in next summer.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Dean Jones reported that Ndicka is on the verge of signing for Arsenal:
“It’s starting to look like they’ll get their man there,” explained Jones.
It hasn’t been a simple pursuit as far as Arsenal are concerned, with other top clubs across Europe interested in Ndicka’s signature. However, Jones believes the strong start to the campaign Arsenal have enjoyed gave them a leg up in this negotiation:
“Arsenal aren’t the only team that wanted him. He’s been getting offers from all around Europe. But their good season has put them in a good position,” he added.
