The player in question is Kaoru Mitoma.
The Japan international impressed this past season and it’s easy to imagine him becoming the latest of many Seagulls stars to be poached by a big six club, with Tottenham one of the main sides linked.
It was also reported by Fabrizio Romano earlier on Monday that Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement with Shakhtar winger Manor Solomon, who is set to join the club on a free transfer.
Given that Solomon plays in a similar position to Mitoma, the signing of the former could potentially reduce the likelihood of Tottenham pursuing a move for the Japanese winger this summer.
However, as Spurs have very little depth and are likely to lose Harry Kane this summer or next, they need to start planning for a time when they cannot rely on Kane to score 25 plus goals a season.
Mitoma scored 10 and assisted eight for Brighton last season despite beginning the campaign as a fringe star, and will likely improve on that tally in 2023/24 with a full season under his belt.
