The powers that be at Tottenham Hotspur have made first contacts with their counterparts at Premier League rivals Chelsea, over a move for an out-of-favour member of the Blues’ frontline.

The player in question? Romelu Lukaku.

The subject of hitman Lukaku’s future has of course proven a major talking point in west London across the summer to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming that incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino had made clear that the Belgian international did not feature in his plans for the season ahead.

Lukaku, in turn, was widely expected to take his talents back to Italy, with Inter Milan.

In a bizarre turn of events, however, the 30-year-old instead opted to push for a move to Juventus, culminating in Inter pulling the plug on their efforts to secure his signature.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then the once-prolific striker could yet be afforded a lifeline, by one of Chelsea’s London rivals.

As per a report from Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham have opened negotiations with their counterparts at Stamford Bridge, over a potential deal for Lukaku.

Spurs are of course on the lookout for reinforcements up top, on the back of Harry Kane’s big-money move to Bayern Munich.

It now remains to be seen just how serious Daniel Levy and co. are about a deal for Lukaku.
