A pair of Premier League clubs are expressing a keen interest in the signature of a star member of the defensive ranks at Serie A outfit Torino, according to reports.
The player in question? Perr Schuurs.
Schuurs, for those not familiar with his name, is a 23-year-old central defender, fresh off a fine debut campaign in Italy.
After swapping Dutch giants Ajax for the aforementioned Torino, the former Netherlands youth international quickly established himself as an integral figure in the Granata’s backline, featuring in 30 of the club’s 38 Serie A outings.
And level of his performances, in turn, has since given rise to inevitable outside interest.
Liverpool, for one, have been tipped as a potential landing spot for Schuurs, with some outlets having this week gone as far as to point towards the powers that be at Anfield tabling an opening offer for the stopper.
As per a report from Dom Smith of the Evening Standard, both West Ham United and Crystal Palace have set their sights on the Dutchman with a view to next season.
Schuurs himself set tongues wagging this week, in openly admitting that he could be on the move this summer:
“I don’t know if I’m staying. My agents and the club are evaluating the offers that have arrived.”
Any such hopes on the part of the former Ajax talent, however, could well be scuppered by his current club, amid the understanding that Torino have slapped a hefty price-tag of £34.2 million on Schuurs’ head.
I’m told West Ham and Crystal Palace are interested in Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, but no official bids yet. Reports of a £26m offer from Liverpool being rejected are untrue. Torino value Dutchman at £34.2m. #lfc #whufc #cpfc
