Messi joined PSG in the summer of 2021 from long-time club, FC Barcelona.

The Argentine went on to have a solid season, scoring 11 goals and providing 15 assists in 34 outings.

Such a record for the majority of players, especially at 34, would be very good. However, there were some that argued that Messi was not at his best.

In 2022/23, however, at the age of 35, Messi has hit the ground running. In 11 games for PSG, he has already scored seven and assisted eight.

Proving he can still go at the age of 35, Barcelona fans would no doubt love to see Messi return to the Camp Nou at some point in the near future.

Messi is in the final year of his PSG contract, with the option of an extra year.

Gerrard Romero also reported recently that Messi’s name will definitely be on the table for Barcelona next summer and the World Cup will be decisive in the player’s decision.

However, when asked about a potential Messi return, current Barca boss Xavi urged people to leave Messi in peace:

“With Leo, let’s see, but it’s not the moment to talk about it right now. You know the love I have for him. He is a friend and I will always wish him the best. Barca is his home, but we’re not doing him any favours speaking about [his future], either. Let’s leave him in peace to enjoy his time in Paris and wish him all the best.”

And now, journalist Veronica Brunati has stated that Messi’s return to Barca next summer, at the moment, is ‘not certain’.

It is added that Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Messi have not spoken with each other since the seven-time Ballon d’Or’s exit. And the relationship between the pair is ‘zero’.

This could end up having an effect on whether Messi considers returning to Barcelona next summer or decides to extend his contract with PSG.
