Trent Alexander-Arnold has played down talks of former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp taking the England job.

Klopp ended a nine-year reign at the Reds this summer and said he will be taking a break from management for the foreseeable future.

That has not stopped fans pleading for the German to replace Gareth Southgate, who stepped down from his England duties following the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.

Alongside Klopp, the likes of Pep Guardiola, Lee Carsley, Graham Potter and Eddie Howe have all been linked with the role.

Alexander-Arnold played under Klopp for the entire time he was on Merseyside and knows the 57-year-old well.

He would likely thrive under the former Borussia Dortmund manager if he did take up the England job, but he is not holding his breath on that happening.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “I’d be surprised!

“I think it was clear when he announced he was leaving, from the conversations I’ve had with him and seeing everything that he’s doing on social media, it seems like he’s enjoying his break.

“It felt like he needed a break from football, so it would be a huge surprise if that was the case, I think we can rule that one out.

“We created some amazing memories, have an amazing bond and relationship so if that was ever the case, we’ll pick up where we left off.”

England are not said to be in any rush to announce the new England manager but fans will be hoping the name coming in will raise their excitement levels.

The 2026 World Cup is a tournament the Three Lions will be aiming to win and it will mark a new era away from Southgate, who was in charge for eight years.
