Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

The Spanish tactician took Villa to fourth in the Premier League this season, securing Champions League football for the first time since 1983.

There has been a steady stream of progress in the Midlands since Emery arrived in 2022.

In the 2022-23 campaign, he secured European football for the first time in 13 years and took them from 17th to seventh in the table.

Speaking after signing his new deal, he said: “I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club.

“Since I came to Villa with Wes [Edens] and Nassef [Sawiris] we found always the best environment and structure to develop a project with the highest ambition.

“All the football structure with Monchi and Damian [Vidagany] and the owners, we share the same vision and same goals.

“There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home.

“We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”

Villa were considered title contenders until Christmas, but they dropped off due to the demands of competing in the Europa Conference League.

While they lost in the semi-finals to Olympiacos, all was forgotten a week later when they confirmed their place among the elite for next term.

It is set to be a busy summer at Villa Park and Emery will be getting started on what could be his job until 2029.

Fans and staff are delighted with the work the 52-year-old has been doing and chairman Nassef Sawiris is looking forward to the future.

He added: “We are building something special here at Aston Villa with Unai at its core and we are delighted that he has signed a new deal with the club until 2029.

“As we move into our historic, 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”
