Did Sunday’s drubbing at the hands of Liverpool mark the heaviest defeat in the history of Manchester United Football Club?
One of the darkest evenings in the recent history of United, of course, played to completion a short time ago.
This came as Erik ten Hag’s troops made the trip to Anfield, for a Premier League showdown with arch rivals Liverpool.
The Red Devils headed into proceedings with confidence high in the camp, fresh off clinching League Cup glory last weekend, before booking the club’s spot in the FA Cup’s fifth-round in midweek.
When all was said and done on Merseyside on Sunday, though, to say that the day’s visitors were brought back down to earth would be just about the biggest understatement imaginable.
An absolutely astounding evening of football, which actually remained goalless through 43 minutes, ultimately culminated in Liverpool emerging on the right side of a 7-0 scoreline.

On the flip side, though, as Erik ten Hag’s United make the journey back to Manchester with their tails firmly between their legs, have they made history as the heaviest losers in the club’s fabled history?
As has since been confirmed post-match, not quite.
Instead, the Red Devils have equalled the club’s biggest margin of defeat ever, after also losing by seven goals in all of 1926, 1930 and 1931.
This is Man United’s biggest defeat in 92 years.
