Cody Gakpo and Joel Matip netted for Jurgen Klopp’s men to secure the three points.

The east London club had been on a five-game unbeaten run prior to the 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ team had beaten Fulham, Gent and Bournemouth and drawn with Arsenal and Gent in the first-leg.

The defeat on Wednesday leaves them 14th and four points clear of the bottom three, although they have a game in hand.
