Akanji joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day last week.
The centre-back had hardly trained with his new side, in part due to his partner giving birth recently.
But with Manchester City suffering a number of issues at centre-back already this term, the Swiss international was thrown in at the depend vs Sevilla on Tuesday.
Akanji started alongside Ruben Dias as Manchester City ran out 4-0 winners in what was a very comfortable match for the Sky Blues.
And now, Akanji has revealed what Erling Haaland, a former BVB player, told him before he signed for Man City.
Speaking to BT Sport during his post-match interview, Akanji said: “I enjoyed it a lot. It was my first game and they [my teammates] made it really easy for me. It was an intense away game, but I’m really happy that we kept a clean sheet and got three points.
Pep Guardiola was also full of praise for Akanji on Tuesday evening: “He trained one day and a half with us but he showed what experience he has at Dortmund and what a good central defender Manchester City brought to us.
“He has quality similar like Aymeric – he can break the lines with the pass. He reads really well the spaces.”
