The Italian spent over four years at Chelsea, helping to win the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
However, with a new manager and a host of new players arriving at Chelsea, there was less room for Jorginho in west London.
This saw him make a switch across town to Arsenal, who he joined for £10m plus £2m in add-ons.
The former Napoli man has since made three appearances for the Gunners, scoring a crucial goal this past weekend vs Aston Villa.
And now, Jorginho has opened up on why he left Chelsea for Arsenal.
Speaking after his role in the weekend’s comeback win at Aston Villa, Jorginho told of how a phone call from Mikel Arteta was key to him accepting Arsenal’s rapid offer. “It’s one of the reasons, for sure,” he said on Italian network DAZN.
“I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans.
“I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me. It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics.
“I considered every scenario and made the decision. Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.”
