An explanation for the absence of Mason Mount from Chelsea’s matchday squad to face Manchester City has been provided late on Thursday evening.
The Blues, of course, are currently locked in action.
Fresh off another disappointing result against Nottingham Forest earlier in the week, Graham Potter’s troops have welcomed champions Manchester City to Stamford Bridge, for a Premier League clash.
As alluded to above, though, Chelsea’s efforts to defy the odds in getting the better of a City side hunting down Arsenal atop the English top-flight will come sans the services of a key member of the club’s first-team setup.
This comes after the aforementioned Mason Mount was a surprise absentee from the capital outfit’s latest matchday squad.
And now, an explanation for as much has been provided.
Mason Mount was injured in training yesterday, hence not in Chelsea squad tonight

When drawn on Mount’s wellbeing ahead of this evening’s action kicking into gear in west London, meanwhile, Graham Potter was keen to keep his cards close to his chest in explaining:
“He had a kick in training yesterday. It never rains but it pours, as they say. Happy New Year.”
🗣️ “Since the last home game we’ve lost Reece [James] and Mason [Mount] but that’s the challenge we face.”
