Arsenal headed into the match once again chasing Manchester City after the Sky Blues saw off Leeds on Saturday.
The Premier League title is now all but gone for the Gunners, but they needed a win over the Magpies to keep their slim hopes alive.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have all but guaranteed a Champions League place next season but will have been eager to pick up the win on Sunday to move one step closer to that.
When all was said and done at St James’ Park, Arsenal came away with the win.
Newcastle had a very bright start to the match with Jacob Murphy hitting the post after a minute. Alexander Isak saw a good effort blocked less than a minute later.
The Magpies were then awarded a penalty after seven minutes when Kiwior handled the ball following a shot from Bruno. However, it was overturned as it hit the centre-back’s thigh first.
THAT MAN AGAIN! 🔥

Newcastle came close to equalising after 27 minutes when Joe Willock broke Arsenal’s defensive line but Ramsdale saved well and the home side were unable to find an equaliser before the break.
Much like the first half, Newcastle came out swinging in the second 45 with Isak nearly equalising early on but his header hit the post. Ramsdale then made a quick save to deny an effort from Schar 49 minutes in.
Arsenal responded quickly, with Martinelli’s curling effort hitting the crossbar after it had beaten Pope. The Brazilian then saw a cross turned into the Newcastle net by Fabian Schar to make it 2-0.

Guimaraes again on Saka. Raking studs on back of his ankle. The ref doing nothing.

Just imagine how many cards Bruno Guimaraes would have if he’d signed for us instead of Newcastle.
