Chelsea’s 2021/22 did not exactly go to plan. After signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for a club-record fee, the Blues were expected to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the league title.
However, the then Champions League holders saw their season derailed by major injuries to Ben Chilwell and Reece James.
Lukaku, their marquee star, also fell out of favour and began courting Inter Milan for another move.
This resulted in Chelsea finishing 3rd in the league – nearly 20 points behind Manchester City – and not winning a single trophy.
Speaking ahead of the new campaign, though, Thiago Silva has expressed his desire to win the Premier League:
“To win the Premier League,” he replied when asked what his goals for the upcoming season were.
In the same interview, Silva discussed his forming partnership with Chelsea new boy, Kalidou Koulibaly:
“It was good,” said the 37-year-old. “He is a player with a lot of experience. He played in Italian football, which for me is the best defensive schooling you can possibly receive. He is ready for our ideas. He played 70 minutes, and on Saturday he will be ready to play 90.
“Normally we speak in French, because Edou does too, and Azpi, it worked well,” added Thiago. “The communication is not a problem, we can speak many different languages together.”
Starting his 20th season as a pro… 👊
