Argentina had the last laugh on rap star Drake by using a lyric from arch-rival Kendrick Lamar to celebrate their win over Canada at the Copa America last night.
Drake placed a $300,000 bet on his native Canada to beat the world champions in the Copa semi-finals – adding on Instagram “this might get Messi” in reference to eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi – and stood to win almost $2.9million if Jesse Marsch’s men upset the tournament favorites.
As it was, Messi played a typically key role, scoring in the second half to add to Julian Alvarez’s first-half opener as Argentina progressed through to Sunday’s final where they will meet Uruguay or Colombia.
And the Albiceleste’s media team did not miss the opportunity to poke fun at Drake with a post that read simply: “Not like us, not with us.”

‘Not like us’ is the name of Lamar’s most recent diss track in which he continues his long-running feud with Drake. It broke several streaming records and went straight to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100.
Although Drake may be more irritated by Lamar’s success than his bet, he may want to think again before betting on Lionel Scaloni’s men.
The 37-year-old placed a $1m wager on Messi and Co to win the 2022 World Cup final against France. Unfortunately, his bet was valid in regulation time only and Argentina required a penalty shootout to see off Les Bleus.
