Houston Texans offensive co-ordinator Bobby Slowik is excited at the prospect of working with “workhorse” Joe Mixon this coming season.
The Texans acquired Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals in March, handing him a three-year, €27million contract that will see him become the lead running back in Houston.
Mixon will be joined in an explosive-looking offense that also boasts Stefon Diggs following his move from the Buffalo Bills.
And while Diggs has garnered most of the attention this offseason, Slowik was eager to praise the impact made by Mixon.
He said: “He’s a fun, fun person to coach.
“From Day one, showed up and absolutely worked his tail off. I understand now why he was as good as he was in Cincinnati. He puts in an immense amount of work. He loves football. He does not stop wanting to learn, wanting to grow.
“He’s an absolute workhorse, in every regard. Not just as a ball carrier. He embraces protections. He embraces the other things he can do outside of carrying the ball, as an eligible [receiver], as a decoy.”

Mixon had over 1,000 rushing yards last season – the fourth time he has managed the feat in seven years – and, since 2017 registers seventh in most receptions (239) and receiving yards (1,824) at his position. He also has the fourth-most rushing yards with 6,408 and seventh-most touchdowns with 49.
The Texans announced Monday that they have signed free agent running back Cam Akers.
Akers played for the Minnesota Vikings last season but suffered a torn Achilles tendon in week nine.
