United States won their second game of the Olympics women’s basketball by beating Belgium 87-74.
Breanna Stewart was the star for the heavyweight Americans, scoring 26, seven rebounds and three blocks.
The USA dominated the rebounding battle with a 48-28 advantage, which fueled their success in the paint, outscoring their opponents 42-28, and securing a 13-9 edge in second-chance points.
“We wanted to control the points in the paint”, Stewart said. “We knew we had the size advantage, and [we were] making sure that we get multiple possessions, and they get one.”

A’Ja Wilson was narrowly behind Stewart with 23 points and 13 rebounds, getting her second double-double in as many Olympic games.
Belgium, roared on by the crowd due to their proximity to France’s border, were much improved from their defeat to Germany.
Emma Meesseman scored 24 points. Julie Vanloo scored 11, and Antonia Delaere added 16.
But with Germany beating Japan in the other group game, both they and USA secured qualification to the quarter-finals.
Belgium must beat Japan on Sunday to have a chance of joining them in the last eight as one of the best third-placed finishers.
The USA also face Germany on Sunday in what will be a test for both sides ahead of the knockout stage.
