The decision comes just two days after Cohen expressed confidence in his comeback, insisting “I feel all the way back”.
The 29-year-old signed with the Jets earlier this year, aiming for his first regular-season appearance since 2020.
Cohen’s career has been marred by a series of injuries, including a broken leg and torn knee ligaments in 2020.
He missed the rest of that season, the entire 2021 campaign, and his 2022 return attempt was thwarted by a torn Achilles.
Cohen, a former All-Pro returner, was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Last season, he joined the Panthers practice squad before the Jets signed him in the spring.
The Jets saw potential in Cohen, especially with new kickoff rules set to be introduced in 2024.
Despite showing promise in training camp, Cohen has now informed the team he’s stepping away from the game for good.
